If a Tree Falls…yada yada

Friday, September 30th, 2011

I saw a comment on my Facebook page that said “Where’s the Notes From the Road commentary? Don’t stop writing I read them.” It’s funny I thought to myself “Wow, someone out there cares what I have to say.” Well after a hiatus in writing blog posts I must say I was touched by that person’s comment. It showed me that my writing was not in vain. So often as a songwriter or citizen of the world one starts to question whether or not anyone out there is even listening or cares. Well, I have received an answer to the age old question “If a tree falls somewhere in the forest does it make a sound yada yada?” Yes, it does. Just because “everyone” isn’t buzzing doesn’t mean that we aren’t being heard. It simply means that only those listening for the “tree to fall” are waiting with ears tuned to the ground! For all of you with your ears to the ground waiting…I’m on the way and I can’t wait to meet you. Until then…

Where is the word retail in Christmas?

Monday, December 13th, 2010

This time of year often brings mounds of stress as we frantically prepare for the holidays. Some people become extremely sad at this time of year Christmas Marqueebecause they may feel lonely or don’t have the money to buy presents for love ones. Christmas has progressively moved toward a season that retailers use as a means to move merchandise without respect to what this season really means. Don’t get me wrong; giving to others is not a bad thing. But, people fight the notion of a Christ, but then we go out, stand in lines to buy the latest gadgets and gear all in the name of Christmas. As with any advertised show, shouldn’t you first have a desire to see the person named on the marquee?

I seriously doubt we need more “stuff” in our lives. I’m sure many of you if you had to wish for any gift this season, I am sure it would not be more stuff. Most likely it would be something of substance that money could not buy. Maybe you desire stable employment, maybe you desire a God selected soul mate, maybe peace in your heart, peace in your home or even peace in your head. You may desire just to have a moment when you are not in pain. Or you may just want to know the truth about who God is and your real purpose is in life. No matter your desire, I challenge us all this holiday to really look at why we celebrate this day and begin to look into the heart of the person for which it is named.

Sideline Pass

Monday, December 13th, 2010

On Friday evening, I received a call from a good friend who filled me in on the latest updates in her life. As we discussed topics on family, lovSideline Pass logoe, life and kids we stumbled upon sports. Being the sports fan she is, she opened my eyes to the idea that women can find sports both entertaining and interesting. Although I know Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings are normally reserved for football, I must say I have always found myself a little “out of my comfort zone.” Nonetheless, she introduced me to this cool new site called Sidelinepass. Even though I am not a big sports buff, I must say this site got me excited about wanting to learn more about football. SidelinePass.com offers women a fun but serious look at the world of sports, starting with football. Throughout the season, they are the go-to information source. It is a fact women watch the game differently than men but no less fervently and passionately.  No worries if you are not currently a sports fanatic. This site is just for you as well. Start at the beginning and learn the basics. Show your hubby or boyfriend that you can “get in the game.”  Visit Sidelinepass and join the fun.

Comfort and Character

Monday, December 13th, 2010

image of a comfortable sneakerIn my family I am often the one called when a crisis arises. Whether it is an emotional, physical or spiritual one. The odd thing I find is that I am often quietly going through my own personal crisis when the phone rings. Needless to say, I dry my eyes, “put on my face” and get in gear.  My pain, my trials, my hurt, my regrets must be gathered up and placed in a bag to attend to at another time. You may feel the same way, like the on-call doctor in a small town known as family.

As I reflect on challenging moments in life, I am reminded that God is not interested in my comfort but in my character. He is closely watching. “What will I do?” “Will I judge?” “Will I be kind?” Will I help even if it’s not convenient? Waiting at the other end of this moment is a snapshot of who I am becoming or who I have become.
