I saw a comment on my Facebook page that said “Where’s the Notes From the Road commentary? Don’t stop writing I read them.” It’s funny I thought to myself “Wow, someone out there cares what I have to say.” Well after a hiatus in writing blog posts I must say I was touched by that person’s comment. It showed me that my writing was not in vain. So often as a songwriter or citizen of the world one starts to question whether or not anyone out there is even listening or cares. Well, I have received an answer to the age old question “If a tree falls somewhere in the forest does it make a sound yada yada?” Yes, it does. Just because “everyone” isn’t buzzing doesn’t mean that we aren’t being heard. It simply means that only those listening for the “tree to fall” are waiting with ears tuned to the ground! For all of you with your ears to the ground waiting…I’m on the way and I can’t wait to meet you. Until then…

The Let it Go (Terel Wallace aka”Tall Black Guy” Remix)
Monday, July 18th, 2011It’s been 5 years since I released the “Doing Just Fine” project (my times flys), and in commemoration of the 5 year anniversary Terel Wallace aka “Tall Black Guy” created a hot remix of “Let it Go,” a fan favorite from this project. This song is special to me because it was the first track for which I received international airplay, a Wammie nomination (Washington DC’s version of the Grammy’s) and the song for which I received my first ever royalty check (woo hoo, who doesn’t like getting checks in the mail?). Terel has been on fire since he created the “Two People” remix from Eric Roberson’s Music Fan First album and graciously lent his talents to help me celebrate the 5 year anniversary of this special song. Listen to the original and remix version here.

Writing Songs Like a Man
Friday, March 18th, 2011I came across an article a few weeks back on Marsha Ambrosius (I wish I could remember where it was I’d link to it here) where she was interviewed by someone where she stated she writes like a man. Since reading that article I’ve been marinating on that statement. Her statement was basically saying she was not afraid to say want she wants to say in her songs. She is unapologetic in the words she chooses to convey an emotion, feeling or thought. This article has challenged me to not be afraid to say what I need to say…no fear!

The Unemployment Office
Wednesday, December 15th, 2010When you work to obtain greater awareness, knowledge and understanding of yourself, you are working for God. God’s goal is for you to be the best
you can be with what you have been given and to share what you do with the world. When you do the thing that makes you happy to the best of your ability you are working for God, Inc. The only reason we have come to life in a physical body is to work for and serve the true self within. That is the part of us that is all-wise, all-knowing, all loving and infinitely creative. When we do what we love, we are happy. When we do what we are good at, we are at peace. When we use what God has given us to create our own work, our rewards do not come from man. Every living person has a desire to do or be something. When you follow that desire, using your gifts, talents and abilities, you can never be out of work.

Where is the word retail in Christmas?
Monday, December 13th, 2010This time of year often brings mounds of stress as we frantically prepare for the holidays. Some people become extremely sad at this time of year
because they may feel lonely or don’t have the money to buy presents for love ones. Christmas has progressively moved toward a season that retailers use as a means to move merchandise without respect to what this season really means. Don’t get me wrong; giving to others is not a bad thing. But, people fight the notion of a Christ, but then we go out, stand in lines to buy the latest gadgets and gear all in the name of Christmas. As with any advertised show, shouldn’t you first have a desire to see the person named on the marquee?
I seriously doubt we need more “stuff” in our lives. I’m sure many of you if you had to wish for any gift this season, I am sure it would not be more stuff. Most likely it would be something of substance that money could not buy. Maybe you desire stable employment, maybe you desire a God selected soul mate, maybe peace in your heart, peace in your home or even peace in your head. You may desire just to have a moment when you are not in pain. Or you may just want to know the truth about who God is and your real purpose is in life. No matter your desire, I challenge us all this holiday to really look at why we celebrate this day and begin to look into the heart of the person for which it is named.
Sideline Pass
Monday, December 13th, 2010On Friday evening, I received a call from a good friend who filled me in on the latest updates in her life. As we discussed topics on family, lov
e, life and kids we stumbled upon sports. Being the sports fan she is, she opened my eyes to the idea that women can find sports both entertaining and interesting. Although I know Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings are normally reserved for football, I must say I have always found myself a little “out of my comfort zone.” Nonetheless, she introduced me to this cool new site called Sidelinepass. Even though I am not a big sports buff, I must say this site got me excited about wanting to learn more about football. SidelinePass.com offers women a fun but serious look at the world of sports, starting with football. Throughout the season, they are the go-to information source. It is a fact women watch the game differently than men but no less fervently and passionately. No worries if you are not currently a sports fanatic. This site is just for you as well. Start at the beginning and learn the basics. Show your hubby or boyfriend that you can “get in the game.” Visit Sidelinepass and join the fun.
Comfort and Character
Monday, December 13th, 2010
In my family I am often the one called when a crisis arises. Whether it is an emotional, physical or spiritual one. The odd thing I find is that I am often quietly going through my own personal crisis when the phone rings. Needless to say, I dry my eyes, “put on my face” and get in gear. My pain, my trials, my hurt, my regrets must be gathered up and placed in a bag to attend to at another time. You may feel the same way, like the on-call doctor in a small town known as family.
As I reflect on challenging moments in life, I am reminded that God is not interested in my comfort but in my character. He is closely watching. “What will I do?” “Will I judge?” “Will I be kind?” Will I help even if it’s not convenient? Waiting at the other end of this moment is a snapshot of who I am becoming or who I have become.
Pointed in the right direction?

I came across this passage in Iyanla Vanzant’s “Acts of Faith” and I thought it was timely. I hope you are empowered and encouraged after reading this.
The finger of God never points where the hand of God isn’t somehow making a way – Rev. Alvin Kibble
When you have a deep desire to do a thing, do it!
“De” meaning “of”
“Sire” meaning Father
Is the very thing God wants for you.
The urging is from the soul and is the only fuel you need.
It is a blessing. It lets you know that you have been chosen for a special task.
God knows you can and wants you to do or have whatever it is.
It cannot be too difficult!
It is not beyond your reach! It is connected to your soul!
That’s where all the power is!
Trust those urgings. They are the best friends you could have.
Learn to move beyond what appears to be the essence of what you are.
Is it a good thing? Will you and others benefit? If so, go for it!
Don’t let others talk you out of your desire. It is not for them to see or know.
They cannot feel it the way you do, don’t expect them to.
Nurture your desire in thought, word and deed; never doubt it will become your reality.
If you do your part, the Father will do his part and guide you to the wellspring of your desire come true.
I can’t do it. I AM, the conduit through which it will be done.
Will 2011 Be a Breakout Year for Underrated Indie Soul Singers?
Tuesday, October 26th, 2010With our current economic climate and the state of the music industry, I find myself wondering if 2011 will be a breakout year for indie soul singers. As I ponder the thought, I am reminded of the first time I saw Rachelle Ferrell, Ledisi, Lizz Wright, Lalah Hathaway, Carol Riddick and Deborah Bond perform live. It was a spiritual awakening. I remember walking away feeling changed somehow. I thought to myself “My, the Lord has blessed them with an awesome gift.” With that being said, this brings me back to my original question. Will there be any under-the-radar artists that surface in 2011? Will we discover new soul singers that will inspire us to support music again? Will the gatekeepers of the music industry open a window for these artists to surface? Will there be any artists that inspire us to be better? Let’s keep our fingers crossed and remain paused for their arrival.
Support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Wednesday, October 13th, 2010Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women (after lung cancer). Although African-American women have a slightly lower incidence of breast cancer after age 40 than Caucasian women, they have a slightly higher incidence rate of breast cancer before age 40. However, African-American women are more likely to die from breast cancer at every age.
If your family has a history of any kind of cancer, please start by getting screened for breast cancer today! Schedule a mammogram. I’m scheduled for this Friday. Join me in being proactive about early detection.

The Road & Duets
Friday, May 28th, 2010I’m off to Atlanta for a mini-tour to promote my new single “That’s Enough.” I am so proud of this project and look forward to sharing it with the Atlanta audience. I also started writing a new song which will be my very first duet. I’ve never written a duet, but I am really excited about this one. Tell me, who do you think would be great person to feature on a duet with me and why?
